Cryogenic Butterfly Valve is engineered for high-flow isolation and throttling in ultra-low temperature applications down to -196°C (-320°F). Utilizing a triple-offset (TOV) geometry combined with an extended bonnet design, this quarter-turn valve keeps the stem packing high above the freezing zone while providing a friction-free, non-rubbing seal that eliminates seat wear during thermal expansion and contraction.

Featuring a field-replaceable metal seat ring and spring-energized seals, the cryogenic butterfly valve achieves bi-directional, bubble-tight shut-off in high-pressure liquefied gas lines. Its compact face-to-face dimensions and significantly reduced weight make it the industry standard for large-bore liquid natural gas (LNG) terminals, air separation units (LIN, LOX, LAR), liquid hydrogen transport, and aerospace fueling facilities.

Key Features

  • Triple-Offset (TOV) Geometry: Eliminates friction between the disc seal ring and body seat during rotation, preventing seat galling and extending service life in cryogenic media.

  • Extended Bonnet (Drip Collar): Elevates stem packing high above the freezing line, preserving gland packing elasticity and preventing moisture ice lock.

  • Bi-Directional Bubble-Tight Sealing: Precision-machined laminated metal-to-metal seats or solid PCTFE rings ensure zero-leakage performance under extreme cold.

  • Lightweight & Compact Footprint: Short wafer/lugged face-to-face dimensions save structural space, reduce thermal mass, and speed up cooldown cycles.

  • Fire-Safe & Anti-Static Certified: Full metal-to-metal seating inherently satisfies fire-safe standards (API 607 / ISO 10497) for flammable gas service.

Brands We Provide

Applications

  • Large-Diameter LNG Processing Trains, Storage Tanks & Loading Arms

  • Industrial Air Separation Plants (Liquid Oxygen, Nitrogen, Argon)

  • Cryogenic Ship-to-Shore Bunkering & Marine Piping Systems

  • Liquid Hydrogen (LH2) Fuel Transfer Lines

  • Ethylene & Cold Box Distribution Piping

  • Power Generation & Aerospace Cryogenic Test Facilities

Benefits

  • Cost & Weight Efficiency: Significantly lighter and more economical than equivalent large-diameter gate, globe, or ball valves.

  • Fast Quarter-Turn Operation: Low operating torque allows rapid 90-degree isolation using compact pneumatic or electric actuators.

  • Low Thermal Mass: Reduces the amount of liquid gas required to cool down the valve body before operation, minimizing boil-off gas (BOG) losses.

  • In-Line Seat Maintenance: Top-entry or flanged designs allow easy seat ring inspection and replacement without removing the valve from the skid.

Our Cryogenic Butterfly Valves at AustraliaValves.com are manufactured and cryogenic-tested with liquid nitrogen (LN2) and helium in strict accordance with BS 6364 and ISO 28921, available in custom extension lengths and offset configurations across Australia.
