Disc Type Steam Trap operates on the dynamic principle of fluid velocity and pressure differentials to automatically purge condensate while keeping live steam securely locked in the system. A single floating disc—precision-ground from hardened stainless steel—serves as the sole moving component, controlling discharge by responding to kinetic energy differences between liquid condensate and high-velocity flash steam.
As cool, low-velocity condensate enters the trap, line pressure lifts the disc off its seat to discharge fluid freely into the return line. However, when hot condensate flashes into steam across the seat, the sudden increase in fluid velocity drops static pressure beneath the disc while building dynamic pressure in the control chamber above it. This rapid pressure imbalance snaps the disc down tightly against its seat, halting flow instantly until the flash steam in the control chamber condenses, allowing the cycle to repeat smoothly.
Practical Advantages in the Field
-
Compact & Lightweight Construction: Offers high condensate discharge capacity within a small physical footprint, making it ideal for tight pipe racks and tracing manifolds.
-
Rugged All-Stainless Steel Internals: Hardened disc and seating surfaces resist erosion, thermal shock, and mechanical wear for extended operational lifespans.
-
Self-Draining & Freeze-Proof Design: When installed vertically discharging downwards, the trap drains completely upon shutdown to prevent freeze damage in cold environments.
-
Integrated Screen Strainers: Built-in stainless steel Y-strainer screens block pipe scale, rust, and particulates from damaging the micro-lapped seating surfaces.
-
Simple In-Line Maintenance: Top-entry cover allows quick inspection, cleaning, or disc replacement without removing the trap body from the pipeline.
