Thermodynamic Steam Trap operates on the dynamic principle of fluid velocity and pressure differential to automatically discharge condensate without wasting live steam. A single moving component—a precision-ground, hardened stainless steel disc—sits above the internal seating structure, constantly controlling the flow based on kinetic energy variations between liquid condensate and high-velocity flash steam.

As low-velocity condensate accumulates, upstream pressure lifts the disc off its seat to discharge the fluid cleanly into the return system. However, as soon as hot condensate flashes into steam, the sudden surge in velocity drops the static pressure below the disc while building dynamic pressure in the control chamber above it. This sudden pressure differential snaps the disc down, maintaining a tight shut-off against live steam loss until new condensate cools the upper chamber and restarts the cycle.

Practical Advantages in the Field

  • Exceptional Durability & Minimal Wear: Featuring only one moving part with no levers or complex linkages, these traps resist mechanical fatigue and deliver exceptional longevity in harsh environments.

  • Immunity to Water Hammer & Thermal Shock: Built with robust forged steel bodies and hardened stainless steel internals, they easily withstand extreme pressure surges and rapid temperature fluctuations.

  • Freeze-Proof Vertical Installation: When mounted vertically discharging downwards, the trap drains completely upon system shutdown, eliminating risks of freezing damage in cold climates.

  • Integrated Scale Protection: Equipped with built-in stainless steel Y-strainer screens to stop pipe scale, rust, and foreign particulates from scoring the seating surface.

  • Compact, High-Capacity Design: Offers an exceptional power-to-weight ratio, allowing high condensate discharge rates within small footprints on crowded pipe racks.
